First Historical Ball in Vladivostok

VLADIVOSTOK. 8 July. VOSTOK – MEDIA. Last weekends many Vladivostok dwellers turned into elegant dames and gallant cavaliers. Gorgeous dresses, long gloves, suits, fans and antique melodic music – all seemed to have returned to the XIX century. Dresses and suits were waltzing in polonaise, gavotte and curtsey – that was an entourage of the first historical ball in Vladivostok.
As RIA “Vostok – Media” was informed this arrangement will be since now held annually.
It must be said, there were more ladies than young people, approximately, 3:1. It seems that ladies like magnificent dresses more than young people their severe suits.
Couples waltzed and danced polonaise and polka. While breaks, ladies cuoqettishly waffed their fans and cavaliers kept on serious talks. Also they played an old-time game – card-flirt. In the past centuries this game was a way how ladies could talk and flirt with cavaliers.
“This ball definitely brought in something new into city life, - said Mikhail, one of the participants, - I am, actually, interested in history, social rules and characters of those times, and there I could plunge into the atmosphere of the XIX century.”
Closing the ball ceremony, participants and guests watched an old white and black film in the saloon “Illuzion”. After that all agreed that the ball turned out well.
Though it was strange to see our city dwellers in lady’s dresses and man’s suits but other people, regardless age and social status, wished that such arrangements would happen frequently and become a good alternative to the night clubs.
