VLADIVOSTOK. February 12. VOSTOK-MEDIA – The situation in the Russia-Japan border raises concerns, said Vyacheslav Dorokhin, First Deputy Head of the Border Guard Service, in a recent media briefing. “The incidents, like the one occurred on Jan. 29 when two Japanese vessels were fired by Russian border guards, happen each year,” he said. “What is more the Japanese side is well aware of the unlawful actions of Japanese fishermen.”

Russia’s Border Guard spokesman said border patrol officers will continue to fire at Japanese fishing vessels transgressing border lines. “Although Japanese officials often tell us that the use of weapons against civil vessels is an anti-human act, we are governed by existing laws of the Russian Federation and won’t loosen any restrictions regarding this matter,” he sated. At the same time, according to Vyacheslav Dorokhin, for the time being the two countries have established good relations in the sphere of addressing various issues, in particular in ensuring border security in the area.
