PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKIY. March 5. VOSTOK-MEDIA – The Growing activity of the Koryakskiy volcano in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy threatens the flights of cargo and passenger aircraft.
The nature of the volcanic eruption that had begun last December in Koryakskiy changed for the last days – eruption increases.
According to experts at the present time the volcano is emitting steam mixture with lava ash constituting pieces of magmatic material in diameter up to two millimeters. Dense ash plume stretches 200-300 kilometers to the east from Koryakskiy volcano. If the wind direction changes, the plum will pass through the paths of aircraft landing at the airport of Petropavlovsk. In case ash particles get into mechanisms, airplanes may crash.
