VLADIVOSTOK. 30 July. VOSTOK-MEDIA. These days vacationers and tourists can see huge sea-blubbers on the seashore of Sedanka, Sanatornaya and the Russian island. The weight of such creatures can reach 5 or more kilograms. Most of people are afraid of blubber Rhopilema esculentum – this is its scientific name. But scientists are sure that bite of blubbers is not dangerous.
The worst biting can cause a local burn if a person is not allergic. Igor Katin, Candidate of Biology Science, says that small “cross” blubbers, are poisonous and more dangerous. Rhopilema blubber appears in the Primorye waters due to warm weather in July.
Rhopilema blubbers are very useful in food and medicine. Rhopilema trade is very spread in China, Japan and Korea. Until 1937 when many Chinese and Japanese people lived in Primorye salted blubbers were at the Primorye market. Annually the total catch was above 100 tonnes. In processing goes only jelly surface of blubbers. It stays salted during 20-40 days. It is used for cooking many dishes. Salted blubbers can be fried, boiled and used in medicine for tracheitis and pressure anomaly treatment.
