Reference

Lotus is a longstanding herblike amphibian plant, a scape of which morphed into a thick rootstock, immersed into underwater ground. Some of lotus leaves are underwater, lepidoid; others are above water, floating in water or standing highly up the water. Floating leaves are plain, round and with long flexile footstalks. Above water leaves locate in the straight standing footstalks, are funnelformed and larger than floating leaves – up to 50-70 cm in diameter. Leaves of lotus have a wax film and, thus, are not soaked – water drops just roll on the leaves.
